Mariah drove into Missoula yesterday afternoon to pick up Birdie and Cody at the vet clinic.  (See "Medical Disaster Day" below.)  I took this photo right after Mariah arrived back at the ranch with them late yesterday evening.  That’s Birdie on the left and Cody on the right.

So … exactly how many rocks did Birdie eat?  12.  Yes, 12 rocks.  Egads.  Dr. Bostwick sent the rocks home in a bag with Mariah so we could see for ourselves.  Dave did not have to open up her intestines — the one rock already in Birdie’s intestines he was able to push through and out — so the surgery was simpler and less time-consuming, and the recovery period faster, than for Buzz last week.  That reduced the bill to $864.00

Cody’s problem was apparently an overgrowth of bacteria in his gut — from what we don’t know — and IV fluids and the right medications got it quickly under control.  His hospitalization came to $339.00.

Both dogs were delighted to be back home.  The hardest part of Mariah’s job yesterday was just holding on to both dogs and keeping them still so I could take a photo!  (I took 22 shots to get this one I posted.)

It’s great to see these two back from “sick leave”! I appreciate all the trys you took to get the one shot. Thank goodness for digital! I’m glad to hear that Birdie’s surgery wasn’t as severe as was expected. So, what’s the plan for the rocks? Will Birdie have to be muzzled to keep from consuming them? Or maybe you can put a rock catcher across her mouth…. with all the rocks around your place, that could be a tricky situation.
    Welcome home hugs,
