This is blind Dusty, looking quite the part for a Montana snow dog.  I took the photo this weekend, when Dusty was in the front paddock of Widget’s House.

Dusty had been a sled dog before he came to us a few years ago, and he was used to sleeping outside on the ground or in the barrels most mushers use for housing.  So being indoors was kind of an odd and unsettling thing for him at first.  Initially he was uncomfortable coming inside, even in harsh weather, and we’d have to go find him and bring him inside.  (You can read Dusty’s original story here.)

Well, that was then, this is now!  He’s become Mr. Let-Me-Inside-Now.  Dusty always makes sure he’s right up there with the other dogs when it’s time to go in for dinner or for bedtime.  As for roughing it weather-wise … he won’t leave the covered porch at Widget’s House if it’s snowing or raining!  (Smart, huh?)  A lot of the other dogs will still be milling around off the porch, getting wet, but not Dusty.  He’s all about staying warm and dry these days.

Dusty is such a regal looking boy! I just love him! It’s helpful to link the animals story so we readers and get re-aquainted. Dusty is one smart and lucky dog!

Glad to know that Dusty has changed his mind about being outside in the cold weather for sleeping…he’s learned how good the good life can really be at the RDR!
    Hugs to all,

Thank you Steve and Alayne for turning Dusty’s health and quality of life around! Since his eye surgery and getting off the glaucoma drugs, he’s blossomed. It warms my heart to see him like this. I’ll continue to care for him financially, but only you, your volunteers, and the other animals can feed his spirit! What a gorgeous Montana snow dog! Bernadette
