Daisy and Spinner

Blind-and-deaf Spinner has decided she really likes the IKEA lounge chairs in the living room, and that's become her favorite spot for napping.  Daisy, on the other hand, long ago claimed those chairs as her own, and she always bares her teeth and growls at any dog that happens to even approach the chair she's in.  Now, the truth is that Daisy recognizes she's an 8-pound miniature Dachshund and she isn't about to get into a fight with anyone, but her bared fangs and fierce growls always work to keep the other dogs from climbing up on "her" chair.  Unless, as with Spinner, they can't see the fangs or hear the growls, in which case the display of feigned aggression counts for … absolutely nothing.

So Spinner, completely unaware that the last thing Daisy wants to do is share her chair with another dog … let alone a large dog … happily climbed up and settled in for an afternoon nap.  Daisy, a bit sheepish that all her Doxie ferocity didn't deter Spinner for one second, quietly and meekly moved over to make way.  And that's when I took this photo.

Button_ARS-click_120x120 Still No. 1 — But That Iowa Group Is Moving Up Fast!

Please keep voting for the ranch every
day in The Animal Rescue
Site/PetFinder's Shelter Challenge.  Thanks
to your votes, we came in third nationwide and won $3,000 for the
animals in the previous contest earlier this year.  Now we have a shot at No. 1 and the
$20,000 grand prize in the current contest!  Enter
"Rolling Dog Ranch" and our state postal code, MT for Montana,
and it will bring up our listing so you can cast your vote.  Please ask
your family and friends to vote, too.

You can see how fast the rankings can change, so we really need an
extra push in the last three weeks of the contest to hold that No. 1
spot.  It ends on December 20th, so we're in the home stretch — and $20,000 for the animals is in sight!  Thank you!

When our wobble-cat glares at our blind cat to intimdate her, we call it the definition of wasted effort. Looks like your Daisy has the same thing going with Spinner.

Poor little Daisy….maybe we need to get her a biker jacket to make her feel more assertive, lol. And Spinner is so cute…totally oblivious to the commotion she stirs up. I love it!!

That photo is just precious! I have an all out effort going on here for the voting. I couldn’t stand by and not try to get more votes. I sent out directions to people and asked them to vote and got a committment from 6 people here at work that they will vote till the end of the challenge. Then one of them copied me in on the mail when he send it to a dozen more people who he knows. So let’s do all we can to get the votes! It’s the holiday season and people are being caring and generous, so let’s keep asking. Thanks all!

    Aw. What a sweet picture.
How does Spinner know that there is a chair there? Does she feel it out before she jumps?
I am spreading the word through my email list to vote every day as well….several people have already responded that they will.

I think this picture should be by the word Ignored in the dictionary.
I’m faithful voting for RDR & have tried very hard to get as many people as possible to vote as well.
    Warm hugs to all,

Poor Daisy has to readjust and compromise like we all do from time to time. Who knows, she may find that a nice big warm Spinner dog may
    be a comfy added bonus.
    Too cute.

AWWWW Daisy – You need to put your thinking cap on and get YOUR space cleared. In the meantime, could you let Spinner know she’s nuttin’ but a body rest. Looks like some snugglin’ might make the day. Absolutely adorable photo!!

I love the look on Daisy’s face. But, I bet she will soon figure out that having Spinner there for a place to prop her head & get some extra body warmth is a good thing! I love how Spinner isn’t even giving a hoot if Daisy is there too. Just keeps on snoozing!!! So good to see Spinner. Beautiful girls!

I think all dogs have this uncanny ability to choose the best seats in the house. For once Spinner is actually “lucky” to be deaf and blind. Too funny!!! Love your newsletters.

So SO cute! I just found your site for the first time this evening, and now I’m thinking about how I might adopt a disabled dog. Your mission and website have really touched my heart.
