Here at the Rolling Dog Ranch Hotel & Spa, it seems one of our primary roles is to serve as a doorman for the various guests. When we’re not busy letting dogs in and out all day long, we’re taking horses in and out.  (And when we’re not being doormen, we’re providing concierge, chauffeur, food and sanitation services.)

Alayne took this photo of me bringing blind Scout into Beauty’s Barn this evening.  Scout is old, has Cushing’s, and doesn’t have enough teeth to chew hay properly.  This means he is one pampered dude.  Not only does he go into the barn every night (and whenever there’s a raindrop or snowflake), but he gets to eat equine senior grain, along with steam rolled oats and timothy hay & alfalfa pellets.  (The other horses would give anything to eat like Scout does.)  Scout also gets a medication called pergolide for his Cushing’s, in a cherry-flavored liquid we sprinkle on his grain every morning.

Speaking of doors, the door on the left is the entrance to the medical room.  It’s a 4-foot wide door so we can lead a horse right through it and directly into a horse stock for procedures.  The trash cans on the left hold the wood shavings we use in the stalls.  The two blue Rubbermaid tubs are where we store the equine senior grain and hay pellets.  (The oats are on the other side of the gray water tank.)

We lead Scout down the barn aisle and into his stall, then guide him over to his feeder where supper is waiting.  If for some reason we take him in before we’ve dished out his grain in the feeder, he’s quick to register complaints with the food service staff.  Some guests are just hard to please, you know?

Shouldn’t there be a red carpet beneath you guys?!?
Scout is quite lucky to receive such fine spa treatments in his senior years!
Loved the story, Steve! What a beautiful evening setting for the backdrop.

It’s nice to know that Scout has the good life at the RDR spa. It sounds like he deserves it. Now if we can just figure out a time to whisk you & Alayne off to a spa…
    Sending warm hugs,
