Judging from the number of emails and blog comments we’ve had, it appears I have been rather delinquent in posting an update on the blind Poodle sisters!  They are doing great, and have joined the other disabled dogs over at Widget’s House, our main dog building.  I took the photo above of Alayne with Priscilla (standing) and Molly this afternoon, on a very warm and windy spring day.

Although many people think of Poodles as fancy city dogs, their real history is that of a working dog.  Here’s what Wikipedia’s entry says: "Poodles are retrievers, or gun dogs, and can still be seen in that role. The show clips evolved from working clips, which originally provided warmth to major joints when the dogs were immersed in cold water. The rest of the body is shaved for less drag in the water. Poodles are skilled at most other dog events including agility, obedience, tracking, and even herding."

Here’s another photo I took this afternoon.  That’s Priscilla in front, with Molly lying in the grass behind her and wobbly Allie enjoying the sunshine, too.

Both Molly and Priscilla really seem to enjoy having all that space to run around in … there’s a lot to sniff out there!

It’s almost time to get them to the groomers again, but this is what we will not be doing to them:

These girls are Montana ranch poodles, after all!

So glad Priscilla & Molly are loving the RDR life! Looks like they’ve adapted quite well. (and thank goodness you’re not going to do that horrible “do” to them!)
    Big hugs all around,

I’m sure they’re grateful that you aren’t going to give them those hidious poodle show cuts!

Hooray for the girls….and please keep them in their puppy cuts! Standard Poodles are incredibly intelligent and great for families…maybe the girls will find a loving home together…if not, it sure is obvious they are completely happy where they are now!

I was a dog person for most of my life because I was allergic to cats and over the years have had a number of different dogs. My two poodles were my favorites. I had them clipped in a lamb cut. They were both toy poodles and what a lot of heart and smart! Wow! I don’t know where they got the stereotype of being yappers but mine sure weren’t. I had a silver and an apricot like Pris. I’m hugely fond of poodles so I love reading about them.
Oh yeah, my cat allergies went away and I raced into the feline world and haven’t left but I do love dogs so enjoy reading about them. However, I’m also now a cat lover and I KNOW you have some there so would sure enjoy reading about them more often.

Standard Poodles are such great dogs – intelligent and loyal – and these two are very lucky to have found a home with you. They look very happy!

We have 4 well-loved older horses, 12 cats and 6 dogs to share our lives with. All of the cats found us and are ages 7 mos to 15 years of age. 3 of the dogs found us too. The last was on my front door step on March 15 of this year, he was approx 9 weeks old, a pit mix and the sweetest smartest boy. The other little foundling girl this year, found in the road, is a 10 pound toy fox terrier. They joined our 2 older Skips, A 5 year old GSD and a 2 yr old standard poodle. As I told my groomer, what dog ever said they wanted a shaved bare boody? Our girl gets the lamb cut and believe me when she wrestles with the boys she appreciates it! I love those Montana poodles!!! You guys are the best!

I think the picture of Priscilla and the big grin on her face says it all. Life is much sweeter in the “wilds” of RDR!

I was looking at some poodle info a while ago and ran across some info on a standard poodle dog mushing team! http://home.gci.net/~poodlesleddog/ It’s quite funny compared to the traditional husky mushing team. No fancy poodle cuts for them either!
