Ranch Thermometer March 11

It was supposed to be 12 below zero (-24 C) last night.  When we got up this morning, it was really 18 below zero (-27 C).  Well, actually minus 18.7 — but who's counting?  And it was still 18 below when Alayne and I headed out for barn chores.

Fortunately, as you can see from our weather station readings, there was no wind … a welcome 0.0 on the wind meter.  But since we just had the change to Daylight Savings Time last Sunday, the sun is no longer up in the morning when we're out doing chores.  It's "light" but the sun hasn't risen over the mountain range to the east of us yet, so it still has the cold pre-dawn feel to it.  A little early morning sunshine goes a long way to making subzero temperatures more comfortable!

We hear spring is coming, but….

Trust me, if I could send you some of our warm weather in exchange for some of that moisture you’ve been getting, it would be a “done deal”. We have the almost never ending summers & you have the almost never ending winters. Hang in there, as the saying goes, “This too, shall pass.”
    Warm hugs all around,

Think about you guys everyday and know how hard you work to keep things going in the cold weather. Amazing how giving you are and all the hairy kids you love are so happy because of it. Take care and give all a hug for me. Anita

Hang in there! It will be here soon. I admire your stamina to handle this kind of weather daily. Living in S. TX I can’t imagine that type of cold & believe me, I would be the biggest wimp around. I would have to hang w/ the puppies by the wood-burning stove & under the blankets.

If you think a “little morning sunshine” makes minus 18 degrees feel warm then bless your hearts, more power to ya! And thank the Fates for giving you a good imagination.
    Warmly,

I’m really surprized that your rh is 66% at those low temps. I get bone chilled with the cold and damp here at 55 degrees at 60% humidity. You guys are unbelievable tough…
