Baron getting loved 1

Wendy M. of Missoula, who adopted blind Stoney and blind-and-deaf Baron from us last year, emailed me these photos this morning.  She had family over to visit recently, and as you can see, Baron was getting plenty of love!  (So did Stoney!)  I've mentioned before that there are these myths that blind dogs, deaf dogs, and especially blind-and-deaf ones, aren't good with kids.  The truth is that whether a dog is good with children has everything to do with the animal's individual personality and nothing to do with the disability.  That's why there are perfectly "normal" dogs who are snappy with children.  But somehow these myths manage to persist.  So we are always delighted to see the kinds of photos that Wendy sent, showing her nieces and nephews making all over Baron — and this blind-and-deaf dog just lapping it up!

Meanwhile, after getting her share of attention, Stoney zonked out on the couch:

And that gave Baron the opportunity to steal Stoney's bone, which is almost as big as his head:

As they say … means, motive and, yes, opportunity!

Baron is certainly enjoying da lovin’ & da bone! Sweet, sweet pictures. 2 of my favorite things in this world, kids & animals! Thank you, Wendy M. for continuing to keep us all updated on Stoney & Baron & for giving them such a wonderful, loving home & from the look on Stoney’s content face, a comfortable couch too!

What adorable photos! It’s great to see Baron & Stoney so content & happy in Wendy’s home that she has so graciously shared with them. I think my favorite pic is the second one where her niece seems to be kissing Baron’s chest & he looks like he is totally blissed out!
    Big hugs to all,

Loooovely pictures, especially the first one and sharing the touch in the third. A dog like Baron especially feels the hands and feels the energy of the people and the world around him and obviously he is very comfortable!
Looking at those shots it occured to me that I think it is marvellous for the kids (ALL ages!) too, to come across these wonderful dogs. Yes, they have something different than other dogs and no, that doesn’t matter one bit. Meeting another world than their own may teach them a lot and can help them relax around and see the value of “other-abled” animals and humans in their future.
    Just a thought…

And, you’ll notice ADULT SUPERVISION. Too often animals are left unsupervised with children who may not have been shown how to behave around dogs and cats and who can’t read and understand their body language when they want to be left alone.
Stoney and Baron, giving new meaning to “the good life.” And why not; they deserve it. Keep spreading the good word about the wonderfulness of disabled animals.
