Making Sure It Doesn’t Get Away

We discovered our new arrival, blind Gabe, has his own peculiar drinking style.  While blind Samantha likes to put both feet in the water bucket, Gabe for some reason likes to drink with just one foot in the water dish.  And he's very particular about this, mind you, because he will only put his left foot in.  Really.  (Is he the doggie equivalent of a 'leftie'?)

It's as if he's trying to keep the dish from going anywhere … but as you can tell, that's a big equine salt block holder and it's not going anywhere!

Another week, another dog mystery.

I will be taking Gabe to WSU next week for an appointment with the oncologist on Tuesday.  So far he's doing okay, but we're anxious to find out what they'll be able to do for him.

    My plump lady also does this, when she eats. Although if she had a bowl this size she’d probably sleep in it to prevent it from getting away! Loved yesterday’s post with Callie – that backside looks REALLY familiar.
    My thoughts are with you and Gabe with all the tests ahead – I hope the news will be very good.

    Haven’t you heard the song, “You put your left foot in….” Gabe’s got that song going through his head! You’ve got a musical dog. He’s actually performing to the song as he’s drinking water….multi talented, that Gabe! Give him a big hug from me. (That’s the start of the Hokey Pokey song in case you didn’t recognize it.)

    I have a cat who does this also.(since she was a kitten); she sticks one leg in, slops the water around a bit then drinks. Maybe she likes a little wave action or something. Quite odd but whatever floats their boat.

    It’s probably a safe bet that he’s got Lab somewhere in his bloodline.
    Judging from the photo, it looks like Gabe has been lucky enough to acquire house accommodations. Thank you for taking care of this beautiful fellow.

    My Goldie will put all four feet in the water dish if it’s big enough. It’s a dog thing, we wouldn’t understand 😉

    I love all the little personality traits. My cat sticks his paw in the water, shakes water off paw, licks paw, then proceeds to drink. I always figure he must be testing the temperature & if it is to his liking. Although it must be a good temp every time cuz he never walks away.
