Spinner in chair 1

I got these photos a while back and forgot I had them on the computer … but here is blind-and-deaf Spinner working her way into her favorite chair.  Because she is blind and deaf, and because these chairs are also the favorite of some previously identified snapping Dachshunds (a.k.a. Daisy), she begins the process quite carefully.  By the time I grabbed the camera and started taking photos, I missed capturing phase 1 of the process:  she stands right in front of the chair, sniffing to see if anyone is in it.

Then she inches closer, sniffs some more, and then puts her front feet in the chair.  At that point she waits a little longer, sniffing left and right:

Finally satisfied that the chair is hers to claim, she starts climbing up:

It takes a moment of circling and smoothing things out to get it just right:

And then it's time for a nap:

Notice that the entire time, the sleeping Dachshund in the other chair, blind Callie, didn't stir.

To answer Kathleen's question in her blog comment, our spring/summer print newsletter went on the press today in Missoula.  It will be mailed out to our donors in a couple of weeks.

Please keep voting
for the ranch in the Shelter Challenge — and you can
vote every day!  We're currently in fourth place and still on
track to
win $3,000 for the animals, but every vote counts!  We just slipped from
third place to fourth, so please help round up as many votes as you can
so we can stay in the running for the $3,000.  Ask your family and
friends to vote for the ranch, too!

Enter "Rolling Dog Ranch" and
our state
postal code,
MT, for Montana, and it will bring up our listing.

Vote
in the Shelter Challenge here.

Last
year we won $3,000 in the first round and then won the $20,000 Grand
Prize in the second round, so your votes really do add up and
make for
a wonderful gift for the animals here.

Thank you!

Spinner and Callie have the right idea. Hmm, think I’ll settle in with my blankie too! Oooh, yeah, that’s the ticket!

Thanks for posting those photos…I got a kick out of Spinner’s “I’m gonna get in that chair” process. She’s so cute!

That is too funny! We have a chocolate lab/hound (?) mix that does that very thing. Although Webster can see and hear just fine he is still tentative sometimes about crawling up on the sofa with us. We call it the “Webster Ooze” because it looks like he does a gravity-defying flow up on to the couch. So you’ve got the “Spinner Ooze” going on there!

Those “Spinner in action shots” are terrific! It’s amazing how she figures out that it’s safe to get up into the chair without being confronted by something with teeth. It makes me just want to give her big hugs.
    Warm hugs all around,

Spinner is beautiful. I walked a dog at the local shelter yesterday who looked just like her – a big dog but gentle and light on his feet. I always want to hug the dogs in these pictures – RollingHuggableDogRanch my alternate name for you. Thanks for the sweet picture.

Isn’t nature wonderful….It’s hard to imagine how she can even find “her” chair. So cute, I’ll remember her next time I feel like whining about some little thing.

I love Spinner so much! She is such a darling & quite the smart girl to be so considerate, not to mention, cautious so as not to disturb anyone else but to also avoid getting some possible teeth marks that would mess up that beautiful coat!!!

Love, love, love Spinner. I’m assuming her seizures are under control since you didn’t say otherwise. I sure hope she’s feeling as good as she looks!!
My mind drifted off trying to think of all your deaf and blind animals. We haven’t heard about Blanca in quite a while. How’s she doing??
