Gabe in a basket

Well, look who's discovered the ever-popular laundry basket bed now … blind and deaf Gabe.  Alayne got this photo a couple of days ago and emailed it to me.  This was the first time we've seen Gabe use the laundry basket, and you can appreciate how he really had to fold himself up to fit inside it.  Alayne said that once he discovered the basket, he's gone back a couple of times since, only to find blind and deaf Spinner in it.  She kind of lies on top of it, while Gabe clearly figured out how to squeeze all of himself — except for one foot, it seems — inside it.  How he managed to do this I don't know, since he's about the same size as Spinner.

This has become so popular I think we're going to launch a line of "Rolling Dog Basket Beds."

I'm on the way back to Montana now … in Jamestown, NY, tonight.  Should be at the ranch by Monday evening.

Final Few Days — $3,000 At Stake! — Contest Ends This Sunday, April 18th

Please
keep voting

for the ranch in the Shelter Challenge — and you can
vote every day!  We're currently in fourth place and still on
track to
win $3,000 for the animals, but every vote counts!  We slipped from
third place to fourth, so please help round up as many votes as you can
so we can stay in the running for the $3,000.  Ask your family and
friends to vote for the ranch, too!

Enter "Rolling Dog Ranch" and
our state
postal code,
MT, for Montana, and it will bring up our listing.

Vote
in the Shelter Challenge here.

Last
year we won $3,000 in the first round and then won the $20,000 Grand
Prize in the second round, so your votes really do add up and
make for
a wonderful gift for the animals here.

Thank you!

It bewilders me how Gabe can sense that the basket is a safe place to sleep in. How do blind animals know the size, for example… do they just try it out?

Too Cute!!! Travel safely with Madison in the Navigator seat, what could possibly go wrong? Is this a case of the blind leading the blind?

blind dogs are amazing. Mine seems to know when it is safe to jump down from something and when it’s to high. Beats me!

The laundry basket napping mystery deepens, and it seems Gabe is now in on the secret!
I would love to be able to see each and every animal on the ranch when they suddenly hear your truck or otherwise sense your return. Won’t Lena, Goldie, Helen, Libby and ALL the rest be happy!!! (Not to mention you two as well.) I bet it’s been hard to be away for so long. I’m glad you had Madison to keep you company.

I simply adore Gabe. He has certainly found just the right spot @ RDR! And have basket, will travel. Sometimes the simplest comforts are the BEST.

Wow, not to take away from us, but did you see Copper County took first place away from Denison City Pound in the shelter contest? They’ve been in the lead this whole time, so that’s a pretty big feat. Everyone remember to vote these next few days!
Love, love Gabe. Reminds me so much of my Tobey. I definitely support the laundry basket idea.

Oh Gabe, how precious! This picture of you reminds me of our late Shadow. He was an Alaskan Malamute/Australian Shep. mix who we affectionately nicknamed “donut dog” as he could curl himself up into the tiniest circle. I just love it! Good for you Gabe!
