Molly at screen door

I took this photo of blind Molly at the front door a couple of days ago.  The screen was recently peeled back by Holly, one of our two non-disabled dogs who was just a bit impatient (apparently!) about waiting for us to come and let her in.  Or maybe she knew we were just about to replace the screen with the glass storm door anyway and decided to help expedite the project.

In any case, Molly had walked up to the front door and wanted to come in, but she wasn't sure if she should come through the (unauthorized) opening on her own, or patiently — Holly, please note the example — wait for us to open it for her (otherwise known as "authorized entry"). Molly knew we were inside, so she just kept cocking her head back and forth, as if to say, "Can't you see me here?" … followed by … "You know, I could just come through this hole in the screen…."

Well, after taking the photo, I opened the door, praised her for being the nice, patient un-Holly, and let her in.

Yes, I know there have been a lot of Poodle blogs recently, but when you have an every-other-day blog to do, you have to work with whatever material you have on hand!

HolidayShelterChallenge2010_468x100

Still 2nd place as of Tuesday!

Please keep voting for the sanctuary in the Shelter Challenge — the votes are adding up!  And remember, you can vote every day, so consider bookmarking the voting page to make it easy.

You can vote in the Shelter Challenge here.

Please note:  Use Rolling Dog Ranch for our name and NH for the state and our listing will come up.

It was thanks to all of your amazing votes that we won the $20,000 Grand Prize in the final Shelter Challenge of 2009, and we came in fourth nationwide in the first Shelter Challenge earlier this year, winning $3,000.  So this is serious money and can really make a difference for our disabled animals!  Please help us win this round of the contest by voting every day, and by encouraging your family, friends and colleagues to vote every day, too.  Thank you!

See if you can catch Miss Callie up to being cute sometime…..she hasn’t been featured in a while. I was also hoping Roo would make an appearance (hopefully with her wheelchair)…..the poodle sisters are wonderful so no one is complaining…….nice manners Miss Molly!

We love the poodle sisters but would also love to see Margaret before winter. And we’re also waiting for the cat house update, once all the renovations are completed. (Can’t believe that Holly couldn’t wait for someone to open the door and made her own way in through the scren. What a riot!!)

I have adored these 2 poodle sisters since the first time I read about them because of this gentle dignity they seem to portray. What a sweet, dear girl.

I appreciate the poodle blogs. You are doing a service to the breed by showing the intellegence that these dogs use on a regular basis even with sight loss. A standard poodle is a very easy dog to live with and train. ( our Marnie Mia waits patiently for doors and shopping trips, NOT SO MUCH with the food dish, I call that ” well, just help yourself now” ) I love your stories on any breed. Where is the goat kid???? MARGET???

Any blog is a wonderful treat but I’d love to see a few group shots of some of the dogs hanging out in their new yards. You know the gang: Travis, wobbly Allie, blind Allie, Trooper, Mitch, Patti and what about Blanca? Oh, and Samantha, Noodle, Penny and….. LOL!!
I don’t think I’m alone in saying I love ALL your animals and appreciate every one of these stories.

    Good for you!!!
I know you’re as close as the internet, but New Hampshire does seem like a long way from Montana, which seems so close to Washington!
Love your humorous blogs. Flexibility & a sense of humor can take one a long way! 🙂

Holly was just trying to help…gee! JK!
But, Molly is a very patient girl! Love that pic!
And, you write whatever you want on the blog! I love it no matter who is in the spotlight for that day! I can’t imagine all the material that could be covered just in one day! I’m sure it’s hard to choose sometimes.

I don’t care which of the RDR residents you feature on your blogs…I have enjoyed them all.
We had a similar problem with our dog and the screen door….there must have been a squirrel on the other side. To remedy that we put
a metal mesh up. It works great!
Thanks again for the great blogs and all the wonderful work that you do.

I just love the poodle sisters…they are so adorable!
You have to admit that Holly was just being resourcful…why bother her “dad” when she could just get in and out herself? 🙂 And of course, she was also thinking of all her brothers and sisters convenience!

As a long time poodle ‘parent’ I enjoy hearing about the poodle sisters anytime you write about them. We have one blind poodle and one sighted one–both have the poodle ability to ‘think’ through a situation and make it work. Good for Molly–she got her picture in a blog, obeyed the rules and scored a treat. That’s a poodle–win/win/win!
I have a secret longing for a beagle but know that I don’t have the stamina for one–we can say to our standard girl, Buffy, ‘leave it’ and she will leave food, other dogs and most other things. I realize that a beagle can’t reasonably be asked to leave much of anything!
